PRESCHOOL and PRE-K PROGRAM
Threes Skills Checklist
Pre-School Skills Checklist
Stepping Stones offers a strong developmental foundation in our pre-school and Pre-K programs.
This program introduces your child to social skills, language readiness, and identification of letters, numbers, colors and shapes. In addition, students learn graphing, problem-solving, patterning, and logic proficiency. Students also encounter basic social studies and science concepts. Finally, creative arts and music are presented on a daily basis.
Stepping Stones uses the We Can and Read Well Curriculum. Research-based and classroom-tested, We Can!, is the critical first step to reading and learning success! We Can! Letter Sounds & Strokes is a comprehensive phonics program that develops phonological and phonemic
awareness, letter-sound/symbol relationships, and alphabetic knowledge through memory games, computer activities, and other fun lessons. We Can! I Can Draw is a pre-writing program that uses art activities to engage young students and help them develop fundamental skills for printing letters and numerals while teaching them how to listen and follow directions. We Can! Provides rich experiences across every domain and addresses the skills needed for success. Language instruction develops rich vocabularies and repeated practice opportunities to express feelings and thoughts. Exposure to social studies offers opportunities to develop leadership skills, strengthens appreciation for cultural diversity and develops problem- solving skills. Phonological awareness and pre-writing promotes vocabulary and word knowledge and offers explicit phonics instruction. Math concepts include number sense, patterns, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, sorting and classifying and problem-solving. Science, health, and safety provides opportunities for fee exploration of science materials, develops skills for inquiry, discussion, and problem solving through hands-on experimentation. Fine Arts and Physical Development encourages communication through dramatics, provides opportunities to illustrate ideas through art experiences, and uses music and exercise to encourage active participation.

Read Well® K combines whole class activities and small group lessons for reading success. The engaging whole class activities lay the foundation for learning, while students master skills in small groups customized to student skill levels.
Read Well K includes enhanced comprehension and vocabulary, easy-to-use Teacher's Guides, appealing Storybooks, and multiple fluency opportunities per unit. The whole class activities address different learning styles and focus on phonics and phonemic awareness with a mix of games, songs, stories, art projects, and handwriting activities. Small group instruction focuses on decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
